Joy in January: God vs Fear

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children [and grandchildren] are walking in the truth.
3 John 1:4 ESV

It is pure JOY for me to introduce my youngest "Guest Branch" to A Branch in the Vine.  My 8-1/2 year old grandson Kaden is today's blogger.

Kaden wanted to share an experience he recently had with the Lord in the midst of a time of fear for him.  It is this situation that served as a backstory for my search in the Scriptures for God's invitation to Fear Not!

Since we all are afraid more often than we would like to admit, let's learn from Kaden's transparent account of how God met him in his fear.

Here is Kaden in his own words:

God vs Fear: Kaden Learns the Power of Truth

October 31, 2014, Babci and Poppi came to visit us. We met at the Visitors’ Center at the Main Gate of the local AFB to get a visitor’s ID so they could get on base.

We walked all together into the Visitors’ Center. At first, I had no interest in the TV that was on in the waiting area. While I was reading a magazine on weapons, I became bored and was looking for something else.

It was then that the TV caught my eye. If I had known that the show on the TV was going to be so scary, I would have found something else to do.  But because the first part was interesting, I kept watching, until it was too late. The show began to scare me to death.

We left to go back to my house. By then my mind kept thinking about what I had seen in the show, even though I was making my lego set and doing other fun things.

Then at 6 pm, we all went trick or treating. I found some friends along the way.  Then we went home.  We got dressed for bed, and then all the details of the scary show began to grow in my mind.

I was very worried that I might have nightmares.

But Babci gave me a tip for not having nightmares. She told me to think of happy stuff. She said, “Whatever is true, whatever is right, whatever is of a good report (meaning whatever is worth talking about), let your mind think on these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-10)

The next morning, I was very happy I never had nightmares the whole night! God answered our prayers with His truth.  Now I trust God to destroy my fears!
