Key Word: REMEMBER
/From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!
Psalm 113:3 ESV
God exhorts His people time and time again to remember, to not forget, who He is and what He has done. Why, I wonder?
“In the Bible, "remember" (zakar in Hebrew) means more than mental recall; it implies active engagement with the past, bringing it into the present to guide action, strengthen faith, and affirm God's covenant (AI Overview)
What better “Key Word” for our “Stones of Remembrance” journey than this?
So let’s trace God’s exhortation to “remember” in the Scriptures. Then we will be encouraged to see our God and how He has manifested Himself in our own steps of faith, past, present, and even into the future.
Here are a few favorites:
Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
3 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
4 Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!
5 Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,
Psalm 105:1-ESV
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
Psalm 103:1-2ff ESV
Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them”.
Ecclesiastes 12:1 ESV
YOUR TURN:
What are some of your favorite Remember Scriptures?
Please share them in the comments. We can learn from one another.
And also . . .
Begin remembering Him in your own life.
Start a journal or notebook, your own “Big Book” of rememberings.
“Look and Look Again” at your own life as we go along, stone by stone.
Jot down your thoughts, even random ones.
Here are a few questions to get you started.
You can visit them each time we look at another “stone”:
What are your earliest memories? Was there a significant person, place, truth that impacted you in your early years?
What could be some of your “stepping stones/remembering stones”?
This doesn’t have to be set in concrete. You may likely change around your order and even delete/add as you go along. Just jot down your “now thoughts.”
Jot down even the hard things that have happened in your life. You can then process them with the Lord. Watch how He takes those struggles and trials, as time goes on, and “filters” them into the truths about Himself and about your life that you can build upon.
Just start writing or journaling your thoughts — no need to write it up formally. I had started out with topics and descriptions long before I started writing it up formally.
Happy reminiscing, recording, and writing!
With love & prayers for Holy Spirit revelation
