Singing My Own Love Song to Jesus

Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.
John 15:9 NASB

I hate missing opportunities! It has always been a problem for me . . . especially in my younger years. But now in my very “senior” years, I’m learning to make choices in response to my Father’s teaching to pace myself and sharpen my response to HIM, not to the awesome opportunity — to HIM.

So in the learning and in the choices, I still struggle with regret (did I make the right choice?) and grief (I can’t believe I chose to miss this incredible opportunity! What a loss!)

And so I’m amazed at the choice I just made to let go of some tickets to an amazing worship experience that features a Christian group I absolutely LOVE. But what the Lord spoke to my soul as I did far out weighs what I may have experienced if I hadn’t responded to HIM in the situation. Can I tell you about it?

The day I said “No” to the opportunity, I continued on my regular day and went to my usual aerobics exercise class. As I moved with the instructor and the oldies music, my thoughts interspersed between concentrating on what I was doing and agonizing over the decision I had just made. Back & forth. Back & forth.

And then, seemingly out of the blue, “Jan, you don't need to go to a worship concert to sing to Me.”

“Wow, was that really You, God. And is that really true?”

And then my thoughts continued, “Worship isn’t about singing with a huge group of believers (although it can be).” Rather it’s an issue of my own heart.

So as my day went on, the Lord said to my heart and soul, “Sing Me your love songs.”

That night I responded to His invitation, and I sang a chorus to Him. But I realized that, even though it was a good one, it wasn’t MY love song to HIM. Then I remembered one I could only honestly sing to HIM, not to any person on earth.

And so I’m singing* . . .

What about you, my friend? What is your own love song to your Lord?

I Won't Last A Day Without You

Day after day I must face a world of strangers
Where I don't belong,
I'm not that strong

It's nice to know that there's someone I can turn to
Who will always care, you're always there

When there's no getting over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you

So many times when the city seems to be without a friendly face
A lonely place
It's nice to know that you'll be there if I need you
And you'll always smile, it's all worthwhile

When there's no getting over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you

Touch me and I end up singing
Troubles seem to up and disappear
You touch me with the love you're bringing
I can't really lose when you're near

If all my friends have forgotten half their promises
They're not unkind, just hard to find
One look at you and I know that I could learn to live
Without the rest, I found the best

When there's no getting over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you

When there's no getting over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you
