The Real Enemy Behind the COVID-19

We have an Enemy. . . a silent enemy. . . an invisible enemy . . . a nasty Bully of an enemy.

And it’s not the coronavirus or any other entity that can harass our bodies and do damage in our physical world. The enemy I’m referring to is the Enemy of our souls, God’s enemy and therefore ours (because we belong to God) — the “spiritual forces of wickedness” —the devil and his evil legions.

And he is alive and well right now, using the present circumstances (pandemic) to harass our emotions by whispering and, even at times, “shouting” fearful thoughts, making us feel all alone and out of control.

And we cling to these fearful thoughts as “gospel truth.”

But God tells us how to handle this Enemy behind any other enemy we face:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he WILL FLEE from you.
James 4:7 ESV

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:6-10 ESV

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God [which is Jesus Himself], that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firmStand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,...
Ephesians 6:10-17 ESV

The Enemy has his schemes (His favorites are lies, fear, and accusation/condemnation). But don't be his next victim.

Consider yourself dead to his tactics,* because you ARE! And you are alive in the Conquering King.

So resist and watch him wimp in the presence of your Indwelling Hero. Amen!
