First Stop in our Journey: Attached to Jesus

And Jesus said to them, … Have you never read,
‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?”
Matthew 21:16

I’m back-tracking a bit to tell you about our first stop in our car trip. Illinois for Spring Break in Kansas City with our beloved daughter and son-in-law and grands was our plan. (see photos below).

But I would like to tell about the the most heart-grabbing, spiritually touching part of it all. It took place in their home in Illinois before and after our trip to KC.

Affirmation cards and their bibles

Eight year old Claire and ten year old William talked with me about God long and often. It was obvious their hearts are hungry for Him. Bible stories about the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ led to looking up Bible verses in their new NLT bibles from our sharing “affirmation cards” (a gift from a dear friend). Claire shows a deep attachment to God. So she and I sing together our favorite “together hymn”: Be Thou My Vision

William’s mature questions about other religions and their writings reveal how deeply he is thinking about spiritual things. He wanted to know how Greek mythology compared to the Bible. I told him that all of those ways showed how different groups of people tried to make sense of the world and life on this earth. But their own ideas were the best they could come up with because man has rejected God’s way. So God knew He had to come and show us what He was like and set it all right …so He sent His Son Jesus.

The Word [Jesus] became flesh and “moved into our neighborhood.” (smile)
And we saw His glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth (paraphrased from a combination of translations: John 1:14-16)

But when William started to ask about how science and the Bible fit together, I had to refer him to Poppi, the engineer-scientist- theologian. So then they had a couple discussions together, man to man.

God Dippers — about the will and ways of God

O Father God,
Lead these precious young ones along in your Will and Way in life.

Protect them from the evil one.

Guard them from the lies rampant in their culture.
Grow Claire up into the woman of God you have made her to be
and
Grow William up into the man of God you have made him to be.
In Jesus’ all powerful Name.
Amen.
